Do I need to create an account?

Is Trade Local really free?

Yes, completely free! There are no posting fees, no listing fees, no transaction fees, and no hidden charges. We believe bartering should be accessible to everyone.

How do I post an item?

It's simple:

  1. Click "Post an Item" in the header
  2. Add a title, description, and category
  3. Select your city and state
  4. Upload up to 5 photos
  5. Click "Post Item for Trade" and you're done!

How long does it take to post an item?

Most people can post an item in 2-5 minutes. It just takes a title, brief description, photos, and location.

Browsing & Trading

How do I find items near me?

Go to the Browse page and use the search bar, category filter, and sort options. You can search by keywords like "laptop" or "bicycle" and filter by category to find exactly what you need.

Can I trade items across different cities?

Yes, you can arrange trades with anyone. However, Trade Local is designed for local trading to avoid shipping costs and complexity. Most traders prefer to meet in person for local trades.

What if the person wants cash instead of a trade?

That's up to you to negotiate! If both parties agree, you can trade items plus some cash to balance the value. The most important thing is that both people feel the trade is fair.

What should I do if there's a dispute about an item?

Reach out to the other trader respectfully and discuss the issue. Most disputes can be resolved with open communication. Try to find a solution that works for both parties. If an item was misrepresented, the person may offer to make it right.

Can I delete or edit my listing?

Yes! If your item has been traded, you can mark it as traded, and then delete the listing completely. This keeps the marketplace clean and helps other traders find active items.

Is it safe to trade on Trade Local?

What personal information do I need to share?

You don't need to share financial information to trade. You can simply meet in person, inspect the item, and trade. Share only what you're comfortable with.

Where should I meet to trade?

What if I get scammed?

Always inspect items carefully before trading. If you believe you received a misrepresented item, contact the trader immediately. While Trade Local doesn't process refunds (since these are peer-to-peer trades), most traders will work with you to resolve legitimate issues.

What kinds of items can I trade?

You can trade almost anything! Popular categories include electronics, furniture, vehicles, tools, collectibles, and home goods. The main rule: items must be legal and not stolen or counterfeit.

Can I trade items that are broken or damaged?

Yes! As long as you're honest about the condition. Describe any damage, defects, or issues clearly in your listing. Some people specifically look for items to repair or restore.

What if no one is interested in my item?

Try improving your listing! Use clear photos, detailed descriptions, and be specific about what you're looking for in trade. You can also adjust the type of items you're willing to trade for.

How many items can I post?

You can post as many items as you want! There's no limit to how many trades you can complete on Trade Local.

Photos & Descriptions

What kind of photos should I use?

Use clear, well-lit photos from multiple angles. Show the item from the front, back, and sides. For electronics, show any damage or wear. For furniture, show the condition clearly. Good photos get more interest!

How many photos can I upload?

You can upload up to 5 photos per listing. Use all 5 if possible – more photos help traders understand the item better.

What should I include in my description?

Include the item's condition, any damage or wear, age, features, and what you're looking for in trade. Be honest and detailed. Mention if original boxes or accessories are included.

Technical Questions

Does Trade Local have a mobile app?

Trade Local is fully responsive and works great on mobile phones. You can browse and post items directly from your phone's web browser.

Can I message traders before meeting?

Yes! You can message traders to ask questions about items, discuss trade details, and arrange meeting times and locations.

Is my data safe on Trade Local?
